Behind the "Mike"

Voices of Mike Media, LLC, is small, but powerful. Why? Because of its versatile talent.

Mike is a native of Southwestern Pennsylvania who enjoys all things "media." His love of putting voice-to-tape began in his very early years when his grandmother used a tape recorder to chronicle his speech development. He got his own tape recorder when he was five years old, and by his preteen-years, he was creating "radio shows" with his neighborhood friends.

He took his obsession with the recorded word to Susquehanna University, where he majored in Mass Communications and served as Production Director for a year and a half at the school's radio station, WQSU-FM 88.9

His time at Susquehanna also drew him into the theatrical arts. He studied primarily under Barrymore Award-winning actress Deborah Jean Templin and appeared in multiple collegiate stage productions (eventually joining SU's chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, the national dramatics fraterity). As a film minor, he co-wrote and co-directed a short student film, which he also starred in and edited.

After a brief part-time board operator job at his hometown Oldies station, Mike took a "real job" as a customer service representative for Hyundai America Shipping Agency in suburban Chicago. It was there that he learned the delicate art of customer relations and came to understand the core of business relationships. In less than six years, he went from "knowing nothing about the industry" to "department supervisor" by age 27.

During his time in Chicagoland, he continued to discover performing outlets. For six months, he studied and performed improv comedy on Chicago's North Side with "Low Sodium Entertainment," and appeared frequently on community theater stages, in musicals, farces, and children's plays.

In the early 2000s, Mike hit one of his career highs when he was cast to voice three separate characters in the commercially-released video game, "Culpa Innata." He was also honored to be invited to perform with "Those Thrilling Days of Yesteryear," a Chicagoland troupe that recreated old-time radio shows on stage for live audiences.

In the summer of 2005, with most of his college debt paid, Mike returned to Southwestern Pennsylvania to finally put his degree to work. In short order, he found a home at WMBS-AM 590 in Uniontown, PA, primarily as a news anchor. During his six and a half years there, he was honored three times by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB): twice for "Outstanding Local Radio Newscast" and once for "Outstanding Radio Commercial."

In May 2012, Mike was hired by another Pittsburgh-market station, WCNS-AM 1480, where he won two more PAB awards for "Outstanding Radio Newscast."

From 2007 to 2014, Mike also served as an announcer for the MSA Sports Network, covering high school sporting events over terrestrial and internet radio.

Mike still managed to be a performer during this nine-year stretch in the mid-Atlantic. He appeared in several theatrical productions, provided voice recordings and recording services for several others, directed and performed in a live on-stage radio show (akin to "Those Thrilling Days of Yesteryear"), and was a seasonal tour guide for "Haunted Pittsburgh," regaling rapt audiences with tales of some of the Steel City's most haunted hotspots.

In addition to gracing Pittsburgh-area radio airwaves and stages with his talents, Mike was a featured actor in four local TV commercials and provided the voiceover for a fifth.

In the midst of this Pennsylvania whirlwind, the impetus for Voices of Mike Media was born.

When he moved to Central Illinois in May 2014, he began laying the groundwork for the business, and in late March 2015, Mike became a business owner for the first time.

Mike is confident that the sum of his experiences in broadcasting, the performing arts, and the corporate world have groomed him to provide the best possible service to you and your clients.

When he has some downtime, Mike likes to keep active by participating in a local Ultimate Frisbee group. He also enjoys vegging out with RPG-style video games.
